DENVER, CO (December 17, 2014) – Denver Broncos Owner Pat Bowlen was honored with a monument outside Sports Authority Field at Mile High on October 18th.
The statue depicts Pat Bowlen in his commanding pose on the sidelines overlooking his team, and is situated in Ring of Fame plaza.
The 9-foot tall bronze statue stands on a 1-foot tall granite base, and is complemented by four 5-foot x 6-foot bronze bas relief panels mounted to a curved wall behind the sculpture.
The bas relief panels help show all the aspects of Pat Bowlen’s career, both on the field and off. The panel on the far left depicts his work in the community and his philanthropic endeavors. The next panel in contains his biography as owner of the Broncos for over 30 years, while the third panel displays bas relief sculptures of the championships his teams have won: Vince Lombardi Trophy (Super Bowl XXXII & XXXIII); Lamar Hunt Trophy (1986, ’87, ’89, ’97, ’98, ’13); and displays the game information. The panel on the far right shows another competitive side of Pat Bowlen – the Ironman Triathlete. He completed the Ironman Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii in 1983 finishing 136th out of a field of over 1,100.
The statue and bas reliefs panels were created by sculptor Brian Hanlon and Hanlon Sculpture Studio. Hanlon also created the 27 Ring of Fame monuments and a plaque commemorating the career of VP of Communications, Jim Saccomano.
The Ring of Fame plaza was created to honor the Broncos legendary owners, coaches, and players, as well as to enhance the fan and visitor experience. The popular tourist attraction is free to the public and open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
