TOMS RIVER, NJ (June 6, 2014) – The Adelphi Panther and Rowan Owl statues have landed in time for spring graduation, as sculptor Brian Hanlon and Hanlon Sculpture Studio installed both monumental bronze sculptures in early May.
The Panther, based on the Adelphi athletics logo, is a massive 8′ long bronze sculpture featuring the muscular mascot mounted on a bronze rock overlooking campus outside the Center for Recreation and Sports. In a touching tribute to the late Bob Hartwell, the former Director of Athletics who spearheaded the project until his retirement last year, a few momentos of Hartwell were placed underneath the bronze rock prior to installation.
The Owl sculpture depicts a detailed version of theRowan mascot as it lands on a fragmented tree branch. Situated outside the newly built Team House, the 10′ bronze and granite sculpture keeps watch over the football field.
“I’m proud that these monumental artworks will be enjoyed by the campuscommunities and used as signature destinations for campus tours, pregame activities, and graduation day photos,” said Hanlon. “As a former student-athlete, I know the importance of creating that symbol of campus that alumni will display on office desks and bookshelves, whether it’s in the form of a picture or a miniature replica sculpture, ensuring that they never forget where they came from and who helped them along the way.”
