Mascot Statues Enhance School Spirit and Tradition

TOMS RIVER, NJ (October 24, 2014) – The 2014 Fall Semester was full of school spirit and new traditions as Florida International, McKendree, Michigan Tech, and Missouri State unveiled larger than life bronze mascot statues in newly created plazas on their campuses that will become popular photograph destinations.

As part of FIU’s Orientation Weekend, the 14′ long x 7′ tall Panther statue on a bronze rock was dedicated on August 29th at the Biscayne Bay Campus and is a copy of the Panther statue unveiled at the main campus in 2013.

Family Weekend was a popular time this year as an 8′ long x 5′ tall Bearcat statue on a bronze rock was dedicated on September 27th at McKendree, and a 9′ long x 9′ tall Husky statue was dedicated at Michigan Tech on October 13th.

The 7′ tall Bear was dedicated during Homecoming at Missouri State on October 18th and stands in a plaza outside the newly renovated Plaster Stadium.  The MSU football team has already started a new tradition by touching the Bear as they pass by on their way to the field.

The statues were created by renowned sculptor Brian Hanlon who takes great pride in creating unique mascot statues.

“My goal when developing mascot statues is to create a design that is representational of the school logo, while enhancing its features to produce a fierce, yet majestic sculpture that invokes a sense of spirit and pride for the campus community and becomes an identifying symbol for the school for years to come, ” said Hanlon.
